CarScan
You can drive, but do not put it off

The revs are capped and the car will not accelerate

The pedal is flat to the floor but the engine caps out around three thousand and goes no further. The car moves, but sluggishly, and overtaking is impossible. The check light is often on.

You can usually get home or to a garage, but every day of delay adds to the bill.

What to look at in the live data

  1. All the codes at once: limp mode never arrives by itself, another code always causes it. That one is what to fix.
  2. Throttle and pedal positions: if the unit does not trust those numbers, it caps the revs deliberately.
  3. Boost pressure on turbocharged engines: not making boost also triggers limp mode.

Common causes, cheapest first

  1. The throttle body or accelerator pedal connector — under the bonnet and under your feet, both suffer.
  2. A dirty throttle body: it does not reach the commanded position.
  3. A split or blown-off boost pipe — visible to the eye.
  4. A blocked particulate filter on a diesel.
  5. A failure of the throttle actuator — checked after the wiring.

P0171 is not a random string but an address. We take it apart, sign by sign.Reading a fault code: the letter and four digits
A symptom is not a diagnosis. The same sign comes from a dozen different causes — the readings are what tell them apart, not the feeling.

How the app helps

CarScan shows exactly these readings live, remembers the highest and the lowest value of the trip, and puts them into a report you can hand to a mechanic.
