Selling a car: what to show the buyer yourself

4 steps20 minutes

A report taken in front of the buyer removes half the haggling and the «what was reset» questions.

  1. Take the report in advance and do not clear the codes

Codes cleared before a sale are visible: readiness resets and has to build up again. A buyer with any scanner will notice and assume something is hidden. An honest report with a couple of minor notes earns more trust than a perfectly empty one.

  2. Show the readiness monitors

This is the main proof that nothing was cleared yesterday. All monitors complete means the car has driven enough and the unit has finished testing itself.

  3. Let them watch live data on a warm engine

Steady temperature, trims near zero, calm idle — visible in a minute and worth more than words. If the buyer does not know these things, explain what each number means: trust comes from what is understood, not from what looks impressive.

  4. Do not stay silent about what is visible

An airbag fault, an old stored code, a tired catalyst — a buyer with a scanner will find all of it. Named by you first, a problem costs a discount; found by them, it costs the deal.
