Twenty step-by-step guides and four new questions

The «How to» section has grown from nine guides to twenty. All the new ones are about what people ask in words rather than by code.

What was added

Finding a cause: fuel use went up, hard cold start, unstable idle.

Specific parts: the catalyst via the oxygen sensors, the thermostat via temperature, the EGR valve via live data.

Working with the data: how to take a freeze frame, the code came back after a reset.

People and money: accepting work after a repair, what to show a buyer, is your adapter lying.

A guide now finds you

Until recently a guide could be reached almost only from its own section. Now the code page and the live-data page point to the matching one themselves: open P0420 and you will see a link to the catalyst guide; open the air-flow reading and you get the one about rising fuel use.

And four questions in the FAQ

Answers to what people ask most: why a code comes back after a reset; what readiness is and why the inspection asks about it; whether a scanner can damage the car; and whether all this works on a diesel or a hybrid.
