PID 5El/h
Engine fuel rate
Engine fuel rate, litres per hour. The figure comes from the unit rather than being averaged over a trip, so it shows what the trip computer hides: a healthy petrol engine usually burns under a litre an hour at idle. Noticeably more at a warm idle is a reason to look at the fuel trims and at air leaks.
What is normal
A steady value at a warm idle is a good sign. Dancing along with the revs points at an air leak or the injectors.
These figures hold for most cars, but the maker has the last word: some engines run hotter or idle higher by design.

How it feels behind the wheel
The same fault shows itself in different ways. Each sign below says what to look at in the live data.
How to see it
In CarScan: the Live data tab, «Start polling». The app asks the car several times per second, draws a graph and remembers the highest and lowest value of the trip.
