The most common question from Lada owners is whether it will connect at all. Short answer: depends which car and which year. No invented numbers here — only what holds for any car under the standard.

There is no separate «Lada mode» here: the app talks to it with the exact same OBD-II as any other car. The difference is not in the app but in what a particular car's particular module actually answers.

The main question is the year, not the model

The standard OBD-II connector and mandatory engine-code support appeared broadly from the late 1990s – early 2000s onward — the same rule as for any other make, covered in what OBD-II actually is. Hence a simple split:

  • Vesta, Granta, XRAY, Largus, and later versions of older models — the engine answers over the standard protocol, and P0xxx codes read the same as on any other car.
  • Very old cars — the classic range (2101–21099), early Samara — may have no standard OBD-II connector at all, or answer to it only partially: they predate the standard rather than support it poorly.
Only a check on the actual car can say for certain: the year in the papers is the model year, not always the exact year of that particular control unit. The app's demo mode shows what the screen looks like, but it is not a substitute for checking your own car.

What almost always reads, if the connector is there

The engine, and — on cars with an automatic or robotised gearbox — the gearbox: fault codes, live RPM, temperature, airflow, fuel trims. The same list as on any other make — the main codes and readings are already covered in the blog; search the code reference and the how-to guides.

What usually does NOT read — and this is not Lada-specific

ABS, airbags, parking sensors — on most cars of any make these modules live on a closed protocol that an open OBD-II scanner does not understand. This is a universal rule of the standard, not a quirk of one factory — covered honestly and in detail in why a scanner does not show ABS, airbag or gearbox faults.

Common topics among owners with higher mileage

Going by how owners phrase it on forums, the most frequent ones are: unstable idle after a repair or a long stand (covered in unstable idle), and oxygen sensor codes after an oil or spark plug change — the general check procedure is in oxygen sensor: signs and checking. Neither case is unique to Lada — the same logic applies to any naturally aspirated petrol engine.

If the connector does not answer at all

  1. Check the ignition is switched on, not just the adapter plugged in — a common cause of «silence», covered in ELM327 will not connect.
  2. If the adapter sees the connector but the unit never answers, the car is likely older than the standard. That is not a fault of the adapter or the app.
  3. On older models diagnostics answer through the factory-specific connector and protocol — a separate task, not one for a universal OBD-II adapter.
